Let's get real: if you look for disabling the most important module in an antivirus then you don't really need one. Online scanners should be fine for you as an advanced user. Another option is going manually at everything by downloading an AVIRA database update, an up-to-date license key and command line scanner tool from their site.
I survived without antivirus for years. If it weren't because i connect hard disks from clients to my PC, i would still keep it that way. I recently moved from AVIRA to AVG, looks like i will need to move again near in the future.
