I am using a low end processor for todays standards (Amd 3600+ x2) and tried the 64-bit version on Windows 7 (MameUI) and in it games were not so smooth as in Windows XP MameUI.
It may gain an advantage but it is lost from the higher requirements of Windows 7. x86 version was a little better but not as in XP.
64-bit MAME makes a difference in average to high end desktop processors.

MAME developers would like to own this processor. MAME players will see no benefit and waste electricity for nothing. Extreme gamers on the other hand with their 4xSLI cards and their 1500 Watt PSU will feast. But for 999 you could buy a decent MAME arcade board.
