PO and SPO EPROM check routine guidance

I"m interested in learning how Punch-Out and Super Punch-Out perform their ROM check's when the test dipswitch is on. I was hoping someone could provide a little "direction". I'm not asking for you to catch all my fish, but what ever information you may want to guide me with would be appreciated. Maybe just a "comments" file that says look here unless you want to go into more detail of course.
