I battled for years with the problem of audio stutter/echo in Golden Tee Fore Complete on Mame and have recently found the solution on returning to have another crack at it. I was only running Mame on an Intel Core 2 Duo 8400 CPU a few years ago when I last worked on it. The stutter/echo was worst in medium resolution but still there in low resolution. I had tried all the software and settings suggestions I could find on the web, all to no avail. Adding RAM or even SSD drives made little or no difference.
However, on running it with an Intel i7-4790 4 core 8 thread CPU the problem was solved, to my delight. I have also tried similar aged i5 CPUs with only 4 threads and the stutter is still there, although not much. So I can confidently say it all comes down to CPU grunt.
I have 2 original Golden Tee Complete cabs with 29" Nanao CRTs (switchable 15/24 khz) in them which I am running Mame through with ArcadeVGA 5000 cards at 15khz. They now run fantastically well with the i7-4790 PCs, which can be bought quite cheaply these days (compared to 5+ years ago) so I am very glad that I didn't give up on them and get rid of those cabs with their beautiful CRTs!
I am running Arcade64 (Version 0.265, built 25 April 2024) in Windows 10 with Mame Version 0.265
Cheers
