Yep on that, but it also means commercial businesses including sports teams now have to start from scratch and relocate to other similar operations in case they still want to catch attention of non Twitter users to inform of promotional events to attract fans to home games etc. The decision to be closed off will now mean commercial interests trying to market products or promote events going elsewhere.

One good side is all the disinformation campaigns that was viewable on web surfing is now blocked off on to Twitter accounts only, meaning lots less views. Whatever is left on the Twitter management shot themselves in the foot, but if that means less disinformation campaigns can be viewed, a tolerable decision then.

There still might be some tweets visible when surfing on web, but to read will require logging in if the person also happens to have a Twitter account. Lots of busy users are not always going to be on Twitter all day.

I predict Mastodon and other places to replace Twitter usage eventually by end of this year. More Mastodon accounts, goodbye Twitter.

I believe a couple of either MLB and NFL teams may have already seen what has happened and will be either expanding to other social media sites that are still widely open and fully viewable now that Twitter has closed the open door access to non Twitter users or users not logged in. Already some posters on my favorite sports site have indicated that their favorite teams have opened Mastodon accounts within past couple days since the various sports teams marketing staff probably knew this would take place with Twitter.

I hope my favorite MLB team Pitt Pirates will be doing the same move later.

After the crap that happened with 4AM and his Twitter account last year, I am glad 4AM had already moved on to Mastodon.
