New working clones

Sprint 4 (Rev 03) [Andrew Welburn]

Great to see Andy improving pcb and rom documenting of the various Atari games.
I played the game back in the days, but preferred playing Canyon Bomber back in the late 1970s arcade era since I was better at Canyon Bomber.

*Colorado memories*

After watching NBA Nuggets win the title (my congrats) and recalling that nearly 20 years earlier, it was Derrick Renaud that was able to make use of taped audio recordings from a Kee Games Sprint 2 cab in order to do discrete emulation of analog hardware audio sound output to get Sprint 2 to run audio sounds. Smit did his work of making audio recordings to WAV file format and Derrick used that for reference when emulating audio sounds.

All that happenings can also be credited to the manager of the Colorado tourist attraction Cave of the Winds, Sean, back in summer 2001, when I was allowed to visit the basement arcade room and do audio recordings of when playing Sprint 2. iirc Sean was aware of MAME at the time and agreed that it would be great if MAME could do the analog audio output sounds. After I had made a bunch of audio recordings, and went back upstairs to thank Sean, I recalled him saying “…cross fingers that audio support might happen especially the crash sounds”. I couldn’t guarantee what might be possible, but Sean and I guessed maybe audio sounds might happen. It was great that Derrick was able to make that happen in 2004. It was great to have that discrete code able to be added to other Sprint series game cabs with luck that the hardware was almost the same with each of the cab pcb hardware.

I would like to believe the discrete code could be updated to netlist standards, but maybe one or two of the specific IC’s are not yet emulated.
