I'm thinking this is a type of 'coin pusher' machine. Anyway, just wondered if it might have some association to the Taito game Gladiator/Ohgon No Siro (Castle of Gold) since it bears the same name and is made by the same company.

If I were to guess, there was a manual for the game (Gladiator) that mentioned "the treasure place" which you briefly see after defeating the final boss. And this machine might be a play on that.

Then I'd wonder if any of the artwork inside or on the sides of the machine have any references to Gladiator.

I tried looking on YouTube to see if there's any videos of this... Nope.
