The first coinop item I vaguely recall requiring two quarters may have been a couple of the automated player piano systems that were installed at some shopping center or maybe at a Farrells ice cream parlor (Farells were popular in 60s and 70s and they had a brief revival attempt back in the post 2000AD era).

My first memorable encounter with credit requiring more than a quarter was in late Spring 1975 at Straw Hat pizza when seeing a WG cab for the first time ever. I watched others play the game first and was in awe of watching the game as a ten year old. I did not have to question whether game was worth two quarters because it was worth it back then in 1975.

I don't recall if Atari Star Wars cabs required more than a quarter when they first appeared at places in 1983, but remembering the long standing lines to play the game back then, I wouldn't be surprised if the credit required was more than a quarter at the time.
