Definitely, not a rumor. It's even playable in Gallery 3. This is the information they have on it.
This is "Fire" introduced in Game & Watch Gallery 1. Don't you think something is wrong with it? The truth is, this "Fire" is reversed left to right. This version was planned to be released as is. The LCD designer happened to make it incorrectly. Nevertheless, the game was just as playable. It was released as it was. So far, it seems OK.
The graphics they use are based on the earlier silver version however the scoring is done like the widescreen version where you get a point for every bounce (they probably didn't realize the scoring was different when they made the port). The score is not reversed and "miss" is readable.
