Moogly already answered and explained a lot.
>and contribute money to Dumping Union
Dumping Union primarily deals with coinop / arcade pcbs instead of consoles, handhelds etc, but some members of Dumping Union have their own equipment and can make backups of roms with their own tools/equipment. When dealing with handheld or maybe specific 21st century game cartridges, the equipment and knowledge to know how to access internal roms gets much more involved. Very few (maybe 4 or 5 members of DU group) can do that type of work since it requires carefully removing epoxy resin and other protection that encases roms etc.
>the entire Game & Watch collection dumped, scanned, and running on MAME. It will be a top >priority until the entire Game & Watch Gallery is preserved.
As others along with Moogly have indicated this is well underway. There are still other Nintendo Game and Watch that are still on the want list. And this is where you can help and contribute to Moogly if wanting to do so since it does cost money to either purchase "wanted" Game and Watch handhelds and also shipping them to someone that has equipment that can dump the roms. Contact Moogly.
I also keep a running post on MW forums and update the post when any G&W item gets supported.

Check with Moogly to see what he has and maybe purchase any others that are still needed.
Keep in mind that some of these items might require someone that has specific equipment that can handle dumping/extracting rom data. These probably have yet to be examined and determine how to dump the data from roms etc.

This is also a specific hardware area that you will need find out if these controllers have roms that can be dumped.
To see what is still sought after, visit Undumped Wiki page and look over pages there, but keep in mind that consoles and computers and software pages are very preliminary.

>getting Mr. Driller, Mr. Driller 2, Mr. Driller Great, Speed Racer and Star Trigon
src/mame/drivers/namcos12.cpp runs Mr Driller and is considered in working shape.
src/mame/drivers/namcos10.cpp The various Namco System 10 hardware games are heavily protected and yet to be figured out at this time. This requires someone that has been able to figure out protection from other hardware platforms.
This source file is what runs some of the brands of lcd handheld games.
src/mame/drivers/hh_sm510.cpp

Settle for one specific xml hash file of your favorite hardware unit whether it is for computer or console.
mame/tree/hash
look over the various .xml files to see which is your favorite. Some of the stuff might already be completed while others such as Apple II floppy hash files have a long ways to go.
>Is this a realistic plan?
Start smaller. Maybe settle for helping donate money specifically to Moogly for cost and expenses regarding the remaining Nintendo G & W handhelds? Or try and help with any of the wanted Nintendo Mini Classics? Those would be more realistic imo.
