I don't know if HDMI does that. When I had two displays, the DVI was running at 75Hz and DP at 60Hz no problem.

No downsides that I can think of. I loved having two monitors for translation work and recording. One was rotated, so yeah, all vertically oriented arcade games running on that one

it's just great having the extra space for work.

That's a moot point because if you plan on doing anything meaningful on the other monitor, you'll be running MAME in a window, which means that none of those settings will do anything.
