It's an entirely different MCU architecture, running on an entirely different CPU core in MAME, presumably one that is more demanding, that said, there could be multiple reasons it runs slower now, the driver got a major code overhaul as a lot of things were just plain wrong (using the wrong IO MCU included in that)

The driver will likely only get slower before it gets faster, the DSP setups need properly emulating to share tasks between the multiple slaves rather than to a single overclocked slave (which are now defined, but disabled)

It might get faster if somebody does a recompiler for the DSP core.
