How does MAME care for this situation (Data East Shootout)?
08/19/18 08:22 PM

Working with a Data East Shootout PCB. Appears to be working 100% on a test bench with the exception of the image being upside down. After a lot of research and talking to several other Shootout PCB owners (including one of the MAME team), it turns out that's the way this PCB is, on a standard monitor, with yoke wires in their original positions, the image is upside down. It is NOT a dip switch option. Maybe Data East had limitations in the cabinet that forced it to be constructed with the monitor upside down. Maybe some DECO programmer was just messing around and wanted to have the ops have to swap their yoke wires. Doesn't matter, but it's a fact that it's upside down.

Now in MAME of course, it appears normally, right side up. I asked a buddy of mine that knows MAME pretty well, and he looked at the MAME driver for this game and he doesn't see anywhere where MAME used some trickery to flip the screen back over. But if MAME didn't do anything to address this, then MAME should also be displaying the screen upside down.

So what gives? How/where does MAME know to flip the screen for this one game back to right side up?

I have the same situation with Technos Bogey Manor, but so far, I haven't been able to find a Bogey Manor PCB owner to test/confirm on their PCB.

Very interested to hear the answer on this one. Please let me know. Thanks,
