does anybody know if there's a design or technical reason why lots of arcade games don't use the same colors in both the characters and backgrounds? i'm thankful for this when creating gifs, and every now and then some colors are used in both the characters i'm trying to rip as well as the backgrounds i'm trying to get rid of. creativity is often required.
other games (killer instinct, etc) do not play by this rule, and the universal color palette is used liberally throughout the entire frame. those are hard (if not impossible) to rip cleanly.
