Question on the Legend (Kyugo / Sega)

Looking at the kyugo.cpp driver. It said there is no copyright on this dump. My question is there no copyright at all on all of these were made?
I read on a website that Kyugo sold these without Sega being involve. But in the driver said this. "Legend - no copyright, but readme says: (c) 1986 SEGA/Coreland" Weird. Maybe a prototype dump? Sometimes prototypes doesn't have any copyrights.
