Mame steering center problem
02/26/18 07:20 PM

Hi guys. I’m new to the forum and I’m not sure if this post is in the right place or not.

I’m building a driving cab with a 360 optical wheel but want to run games like outrun, but also the 360 games like pole position. The problem is (and most of you probably know this) that oversteering with a 360 wheel causes the steering wheels central position to wander, so when the car straightens up the steering wheel is off centre.
This was addressed on the arcade controls forum by geecab who compiled his own version of mame and added a solution to the steering where mame would track the mouse movement so even with oversteering the wheeels central point is saved, ie if you turn the wheel 4 times to the left, you have to turn 4 times in the opasite direction to straighten up. I’ve tried this and it works great.

However this version was 0.148 and quite a lot of the racing games such as ridge racer won’t work with this version. I’ve got no clue when it come compiling mame. I have heard of another fix for this where ppjoy is used and also ppmouse. The ppmouse alsomtracks the mouse movement so the steering center position is kept. Looks complicated to se up though.

Is there a newer version with this fix added to it does anyone know? Or is this simply something that newer versions of mame can cope with?

Hope someone can advise.
Many thanks.
