Somewhat unrelated question here, but assuming perhaps maybe a dll or windows system file was somehow altered or corrupt, if I were to do an XP re-install over the existing install of windows (not a clean wipe) such that it retained all of my programs, settings, registry etc, does this physically overwrite and replace existing windows system and dll files or does it simply skip over anything already there?
I do seem to recall monkeying around with replacing msvcrt.dll with a newer version or something of the like because Nidhogg or Towerfall needed it. Maybe this is causing the problem. But would re-installing Windows on top of the the existing copy (again, so nothing is erased) overwrite and replace system files (a potentially corrupt or incorrect versioned one)? I hope what I am asking makes sense, I'm not sure if I am wording this correctly.
