I can't build my own MAME, but I just measured the speed of Elfin on an old build. The speed changes frequently; mostly it stays between 65%-85% during gameplay, sometimes dropping to as low as 25% for a second. Hopefully your speedup will make it run at 96% or higher on my computer.
