Github is a pain when you have a slow connection! I spent the whole afternoon trying to download the latest mame. It times out, or it fails at 98% or it doesn't start at all (depending on the software used).
Finally, I got to call someone who downloaded the file from Github and uploaded it to a FTP. I got it from here without trouble using wget (it took 7 minutes to download though)...
