True enough, though surely you can acknowledge some of the more openness to external fan projects we have these days, through the use of the Lua plugin system, shader system, internal GUI with DAT/INI support, cheat files, etc....
Might be able to pull off some of what he wants as an enduser, building collections of cheats, INI files, CFG files, savestates, even ignoring what Lua scripts can achieve. But yeah, it wouldn't be the default.
Mind you, I haven't thought it the whole way through.
My only other suggestion to you is: you said MAME is all about arcade games. But MAME isn't just about arcade games any more. All the stuff we got from the MESS team is to be considered equally valid and part of MAME. ![](//www.mameworld.info/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif)
