First post so be gentle.
Back in 82 when I was 15 I encountered Robotron and quickly became a 10 million game scorer. I tried a few emulations along the way (Xbox one etc) which weren't great but now after reading up a bit on it all I am playing it on my JB iPad with my PS3 controller and Mame4iOS and getting back in the groove (around the million mark), What I didn't realise as http://www.robotron2084guidebook.com have pointed out are that early versions of Mame are very hard to almost impossible to play. They state

These are various manually tuned variations using MAME 153 as base source code- which do you like?
MAME153-nofix1.000-ROBO-TIE-DIE – (AGGRESSIVE- this has all the CPU/Blitter fixes by Sean but doesn’t tune for better gameplay) MAME153-fixed1.225-ROBO-TIE-DIE – (PRACTICE- this is on the faster side of typical, manageable with focus) MAME153-fixed1.250-ROBO-TIE-DIE – (DAILY DRIVER- this is typical gameplay, just one more wave…just one more wave!) MAME153-fixed1.275-ROBO-TIE-DIE – (MARATHON- less aggressive but within the norm of some real arcade machines out there) MAME32-psychadelic3.000-ROBO (TRIPPY- psychedelic very bad emulation, dig the tank waves) NOTE- The 2015 Tie-Die romset release is set as the default blue romset slot. (History LINK) NOTE- These compiles are 32-bit so they will work on either 64-bit or 32-bit PCs
I play on my Mac using SDL Mame when I can (and a little bit on my GPD XD but the screen is way too small really) but am really looking for a 10" tablet to play on when I can't get on my Mac - Not bothered by whether Android or Windows as long as it can run the latest playable Robotron Roms and accept my xbox 360 controller via USB or even my PS3 controller via BT for around 75-100 pounds (secondhand is fine) and a HDMI out would be nice too. Any recommendations ? In an ideal world I would like to be playing the Tie-Die Rom which was actually improved by the original creators of the game -
