As long as you don't make yourself an end node, there's no way they can link it to your IP address.
Was it a notice for something you actually downloaded?
I got a notice about a year ago from my provider and they turned off my Internet. When I called to find out what happened, they claimed that I downloaded an episode of Game of Thrones... in Spanish. I don't watch Game of Thrones, and I don't speak Spanish. They eventually admitted that it was possible that someone was spoofing my IP address and they turned my internet back on.
Is it possible that the content providers have set up a "honey pot" Pirate Bay site and are just recording your IP address when you click on the torrent link?
