Refreshspeed and Triple Buffer settings beyond MAME 0.172
08/06/16 11:45 AM

Hi guys,

I've been using MAME for a long time, and for the past several years I enable "refreshspeed" and "triplebuffer" in the mame.ini file with each release. The use case is as follows:

When both are disabled, games play fine, but take a game like Vs. Super Mario Bros that has fast scrolling...the screen will inevitably ripple/tear.

I noticed as of 0.173, when I have these options enabled, Vs. Super Mario brothers still plays fine, but some of the vertical games like Pacman and Donkey Kong now hiccup in the sound arena. If I disable those settings, the sound hiccup disappears from the vertical games, but the ripple/tear returns to Vs. Super Mario Bros.

So as you can see, I'm in kind of a pinch. I guess I could stay with MAME 0.172 for the long haul. There must have been a change in the code somewhere after 0.172 right? If there are new settings that will help with this in the "post" 0.172 builds, I'd appreciate any insight. I have a Kortek 27" arcade CRT monitor and I use an HP Elite 8000 USDT PC with an Intel C2D E8600 (3.33Ghz) with 8GB RAM and Intel onboard video. Not the most powerful, but it runs the classics that I play 100 percent.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Jason
