> Quick story about the word wog. There's this Montenegran guy I used to work with, born in Montenegro, but grew up in Australia. In Australia, wog is a pretty tame word, probably used more often by these people to refer to themselves or as an adjective than as an insult. So in their own words they get together to have wog parties, eat wog food, show their wog pride, etc.
So this guy who's grown up thinking of and calling himself a wog moves to London for a bit of a change. One day at the office he and his coworkers are discussing what to get for lunch, and he suggests, "How about we get some wog food?" All of them drop into shocked silence, then they're like, "Oh my god, I can't believe you're so racist!" It's not a word used in polite company there.
I like when you tell stories Uncle Vas! (Or maybe it's the weed.....) I thought it was meant darkly comic, like when someone says they don't do a certain thing, and the other person says "blasphemy!" or "heathen!".
