With how progressive Sweden is compared to the USA in pretty much all political arenas, it's baffled me for the longest time as to why Sweden takes such a hard-line stance on recreational drugs compared to the USA. Just the other day, I finally figured it out.
In Sweden, people tweak out, get stoned, or whatever term exists for "consuming the recreational drug of your choice", and then for whatever reason they feel the need to go be obnoxious on the subway or train.
In the USA, people consume the same recreational drugs, but they do it in the privacy of their own apartments, since there isn't much public transport available.
Basically, Swedes get their opinions on the users of recreational drugs because the country has such a robust public transport system.
