MAMEWorld Forums - EmuChat - Mame 0.163 slow startup

Hello,

Since a couple of months, I noticed that MAME is very slow to startup.

Actually it's slow when running the rom for the first time. Ex: If I start pacman the first time, it could take between 30 sec to 1-2 mins. The 2nd time, it's fast, just a few seconds.

I have many many files in the roms directory. I was thinking about the NTFS filesystem, caching, etc... Could it be related?

Is there any tuning I have to make in Windows to accelerate this. I read about "contig.exe" to defragment the Index file in Windows. (http://stackoverflow.com/questions/197162/ntfs-performance-and-large-volumes-of-files-and-directories)

I'm using MAME 0.163 64-bit command line along with Mamewah using Windows 7 64-bit. PC is a Core2Duo

Any idea?
