Then, I'm afraid, you do not remember correctly.
NeoGeo arcade cabinets and their digital/micro-switch buttons did not measure/detect button pressure. Only being open or closed.
Samurai Shodown III had 3 buttons for slash, each having a their own level of strength.
Although, there did seem to be some mechanic in either III or II where you would have to hold multiple buttons down to increase your rage meter. That's the only thing I can think of where the power of anything increases due to the increased time it's being held down.
Then, there was another mechanic in another one of the games in the series. IV Perhaps? A 'Rage Explosion'.... But I think that just activated a type of finishing move or something.
If all this is the case (just wondering out loud) then maybe you mean to assign multiple buttons to one key/button on the game pad.....?
