You play the game as it's supposed to, by holding the button as long as needed? Unless you reprogram MAME's input to ignore a button press an instant after it's been pushed, something like this is not possible to do.

Really, get used to tapping for light attacks, and holding for strong attacks.

Even if SamSho III doesn't use that scheme. It uses three slash buttons and a kick. So I'm not sure what you're smoking.
