My personal preference is...

X Light Attack Y Medium Attack

A Heavy Attack B Kick




That may be due to having played a NeoGeo cab (& Samsho whatever) with the buttons in that 2 x 2 arrangement, rather than the 4 buttons in a row.

Edit: or it's just a variation (and I never played a cab like that) on the Street Fighter layout. Punch/Sword on top, Kick on the bottom.
