Are you sure about that? I've been avoiding most security stuff recently just to keep out of trouble, but when I used to audit passwords on Windows systems, I would laugh at local policies because of how they ACTUALLY worked and how they were cracked (at that time, at least). The windows passwords were basically cracked in 7 character chunks, so when a policy was instated to have at least an 8 character password, all I was really doing is cracking a 1 character password (pretty much instantaneous) and a 7 character password. When policies jumped to 14 character passwords, I was just really cracking 2, 7 character passwords. then there were both NTLM and LANMAN hashes... forget which one, but one of them was generated using either all lower case or all upper case letters. Once that one is cracked, it's only a second more to get the case-sensitive one done.

All kind of silly.
