So I had me an arcade experience the other day. Nice to be around and play the originals....especially the second of two 720s they had because the spinner stick was at least 95%...
They had three Tempests, all of which were nicely displaying....ALTHOUGH....none of them had that plume-y vectory glow....except when something flashed white. Curiously, the two[!] Star Wars cabs were the same.
The Asteroids were nice enough - had that blinding shot glow! - but the best was the Asteroids Deluxe. The visual experience with that cab is so cool, it was perhaps my top enjoyment.
Lots of pinball of course - but no Cyclone (not a big deal, cos there's one local), and no F-14 Tomcat (which was a bummer).....
However.....the acoustics in the convention center sucked so bad that you couldn't hear almost any machine in front of you...yet the place was pretty fuckin loud....
Also, some of the machines' controls made them unplayable....like the [sole] Robotron that the left stick was so worn and floppy it wasn't easily registering half the directions...and one of the 720s half the mechanical quadrature was stripped or something, so it skipped bad.
So once a year a hundred-twenty miles away, it's worth it....I'll never go to CAX, not worth it....and the turnout of things was that I came home happier than ever I have a MAME cab, in a quiet home.
I'll post more pics some way, but here's a taste.....
