Looking for an old online game
11/24/14 05:31 PM Attachment: splatterball.jpg 0 KB (2 downloads)

It was circa 1998, a multiplayer AOL online game, more or less a first person shooter, but was magic based. Back at this time, AOL charged by the minute for connection, so the game was a real money-burner if you were hooked... which I was.

Teams of players could fire spells at each other, and the higher your level, the better and more powerful your spells.

The overall objective was to control pools of water. You would stand in the pool to change it's mana over time to match that of your team's. The closer you were to a friendly mana pool, the more powerful your magic was (especially if standing IN the pool). I think if you controlled all the pools, your team won... but I'm fuzzy on this detail.

If you died, you had to respawn fairly far away in a catacomb, and had to find your way back to the land of the living... or you could remain a ghost and hover around until a friendly teammate with the ability to resurrect could bring you back to life.

The game was pretty kickass, but I can't find any details of it... and I THINK the game was called Magi Something, but don't let this throw you off... I could be entirely wrong on the name.

edit to add: a clue! Another game that was available simultaneously at AOL was Spallerball. I played both.

I guess attachments are still busted. No screenshot for you.
