In the extras I have for the movie, Paul Verhoeven said more or less that he envisioned the narrative as the second coming of Jesus. I can't see anything about that in the movie, I just repeat what he said.
Maybe Irvin "ESB" Kershner though of coming up with more biblical themes and set it as David vs. Goliath, or some kind of evolutionary discussion about complexity vs. raw strength, or who knows what. I also see it's intriguin it's the last feature film directed by him.
Robocop 2 is cheesy but enjoyable, although I think the villains in the first movie are far superior and more intriguing. Robocop 3 is just crap IMHO.
