The Raspberry Pi was cheap, easy to set up, fits in my small cab, requires no cooling, and plays all of the games I'm interested in with aplomb.
Surely the definition of 'decent hardware' is hardware that meets your use-case requirements? Why would I want to replace it with a honking great pc that sucks in power and blows out hot air, just to play the exact same games?
The Raspberry Pi is an elegant solution to my particular requirements.
