Just to clarify it: * Some JPEG images (the EXIF standard) contain orientation information. Anything taken with a handheld device not prehistoric will store such information. * Most image viewers (including the Windows Image Viewer and the Explorer thumbnail generator) use that information to correctly show the picture in the right way. * No browser does auto-rotation when displaying the image in a page. There's no standard way to put a picture in HTML and "auto-rotate".
As far as message board software goes, I don't think there's any which does auto-rotation. It would imply reading on the server side the EXIF information, generating a rotated file and sending it instead of the original. So if the server doesn't rotate it for you, and the browser doesn't do it either...
I know many sites do it, like Facebook, Pinterest, Flickr, etc. Probably they rotate the picture when storing it and never bother about it ever again.
