It's not a TAS, it's a live attempt without tricks, just skill. At least that's what I got from the comments and its listing in the leaderboard.
As for testing in real hardware, yes people does plug interfaces to feed the input files to the real hardware. I saw it not too long ago for hacking a nintendo game (forgot which one) to run arbitrary code on real hardware. The damn thing coded on the fly a pong game. Does anyone remember this thing?
