Tom's idea is pretty clever, but still pretty ghetto. Dedicated hardware, self-made or bought, is the way to go. GGG's spinner is totally worth it. A great piece of gear that I'm glad I bought.

DOT in MAME used to be programmable to use both axes for use with a trackball...um, if you have one of those.
