Nah it's not that. Apparently "new design" means following one or more of the following paradigms: * Must use the latest technology, even if technically it hasn't been released yet. * Must reinvent the wheel. * Must not look like a page or document, but more like an app.
It's not that age is catching up to you, but that common sense hasn't catched up with the perpetrators of some of those monstrosities. I see great, really great new designs every day, but apparently the larger is the budget, the worse is the final result.
Customers with no design/implementation knowledge are also the culprits. I offer my customers some really elegant templates to start working; undoubtly 90% of them choose the most visually overloaded and flashy ones.
