He doesn't seem to mention that standard ("flat") 35mm 4:3 films don't actually use the entire 4 perfs frame, top and bottom are still cropped. Some studios blank this area, others leave it in. If the projector's frame knob isn't centered properly, you can sometimes see boom mics and such. Cinemascope may distort the image and re-correct using lenses, but it takes advantage of the entire frame and has superior optics.
Isn't it surprising that you can buy Blu-Ray hi-def copies of old movies from decades ago and they are so damn crisp? 35mm film, especially scope ones, have more image clarity than even Blu-Ray can produce. No wonder people still love to go the cinema, the picture is still way better than anything at home (for now).
