Using MAME with Linux
10/27/13 06:28 AM

Hi,

I'm trying to use MAME with GNU/Linux and I have some problems. I'm using Gentoo, and it is very poorly documented. The manpage is simply this:

" Started in 1997 by Nicola Salmoria, MAME was originally intended as a series of emulators for individual games, which were
later combined into a single multi-game emulator. In the following years, MAME grew over and over up to the actual size, with
more than 100 contributors to the project."

The rest is just a list of arguments.

I had some ROMs that worked before, with a different version of MAME under Linux Mint. Now with Gentoo, some of them do not work.

E.g. for Salamander 2 I get:

salmndr2 : 300a01.34k (131072 bytes) - NOT FOUND (konamigx)

When I run -verifyroms.

I didn't need this file before, so why do I need it now? What has changed?

From a list of what files the romset (Salamander 2) should contain, I noticed that 300a01.34k is a "merged" file. What is a merged file?

What utility, for Linux, should I use to manage my romsets? How do I get Salamander 2 working?
