The updater in the ksp folder did it pretty quickly, as opposed to past updates that took hours or days.
Limiting your parts gives you some purpose (career mode). They still haven't added cash and materials management, but it's a start. I've done enough science to open 3... steps on the tech tree (each is a small collection of parts, rather than a specific technology or item). But you've got it by now....
