I agree with Matty, it's like a circus clown routine, where she's just progressively eliminating places where the handkerchief could be hidden. It didn't remind me of any striptease I've seen.

Don't forget North America was used as a British penal colony too. About 50,000 convicts were sent over. They also exported masses of Irish and Scots over after uprisings.
