The latest (last?) Futurama season has come to a close...

and hat's off to the writers for the clever time-loop conundrum they created!

The Professor invents a button that can take you backward 10 seconds in time... which also requires 10 seconds to recharge... and which Fry steals to orchestrate a wedding proposal to Leela.

When Leela fails to show up, Fry is despondent and jumps from the top of a sky scraper to his death.... only to discover Leela is on her way into the building to say yes to his proposal... she isn't late, Fry's watch is ahead because he's been jumping through time.

Panicked, he pushes the time button... but he has been falling for more than 10 seconds, so he appears again still mid-fall... and finds himself forever waiting ten seconds for the button to recharge, and restarting his freefall again... with no apparent way out.

Leela repeatedly discovers Fry in freefall, but because time backs up for her, she is unaware how many times he has fallen the same loop of time.

Fry eventually is falling for so long he is getting tired, and misses pushing the button, and hits the pavement and dies.

Leela initially is horrified at having seen her future fiancee die right before her eyes... but then recognizes the button and presses it to save her lover Fry... but again she only backs him up 10 seconds, so he again falls to his death before her very eyes... and now Leela finds herself in a perpetual loop of having to catch the button and press it to bring her lover back to life for just 10 more seconds.

Genius!

There's more to the story, but I don't want to spoil the entire thing... but this loop is so fascinating, I had to share it with my brethren.
