Yup, gave in and did that yesterday. I have an old IDE drive I'm using solely for backups. It wasn't just the mixed-up drive letters that were bothering me. XP had put its boot files on that drive, so if I wanted (or needed) to remove it for whatever reason...
Pulled the plug and reinstalled with just the SATA connected. Only took about 90 mins to get everything back the the way it was.
