What are the cons of using a merged set of roms ?

I can think of a pro and it would be to save HDD space.

I never used merged set but was thinking about it. Does mameui and other frontends support 7Zip merged sets by the way ? If they do support 7Zip merged sets does it take longer for roms to load and whatnot ?

Also what about using clrmamepro on a merged set does it take a lot longer to scan and fix ? thanks
