Xarcade stick or something else for MAME (particularly fighting games)

I finally have the money to buy an Xarcade, but now I'm wondering if I should. I used to live and die in the arcade playing SF2, Mortal Kombat, and Killer Instinct and I thought the Xarcade would be the answer, but reviews seem to suggest otherswise.

I can't really afford to buy the $150 per stick Hori stuff though (I need two player capability). What about trading parts on the Xarcade for happ or whatever?

I also wonder if it's easy to learn to use the ball joystick vs the bat variety I grew up with.

What's the best way to go for the money as far as arcade sticks?
