Gonna be updating the Samples site soon...
12/26/12 08:58 AM Attachment: solarq.zip 306 KB (25 downloads)

So Twisty's handed the reigns of the Samples site over to me to get things back in order. Since the "official" site hasn't been updated in over two years, I've been finding lots of "fixed" samples around. By fixed, I mean 0-byte files or renamed WAV files renamed to fill in gaps so that ClrMAME won't complain. Personally, I'm not cool with "faked" files. If it's missing, it's missing.

I should hopefully have things up to date sometime in January (in between family, work, and artwork to keep up with).

For now, this can be the first update...

Here's a little snippet I found from mameinfo.dat:

- 0.87u3: Aaron Giles added 64-level color support for Solar Quest. Changed sound handling to play the music by looping a square wave instead of using canned samples. Added 'music.wav' sample and removed samples (hypersp, extra, phase and efire.wav)

Dang... that was eight years ago. Anyway... I only happened across that, because as I was auditing my sample set, I noticed I still had those missing samples, and I was missing music.wav.

Come to find, there's a set floating out there that has this missing file. Except it's actually the miss.wav from circus, renamed. And it doesn't work.

Solution: created music.wav using a square wave that makes things sound right (this one was done at 1000 Hz).

Enjoy

RELAX and just have fun. Remember, it's all about the games.
