That's a really strange interpretation of what I've said on the subject.
MAME doesn't entirely load itself into memory (just the parts necessary for the game you're actually playing), and CHDs similarly stream off the disk. An SSD won't make an interesting difference in either case (the I/O's just not heavy enough to stress even a slow laptop drive). And of course it won't affect the frame rate at all (which is what some people want to know). Where it *does* help is keeping your OS on it so boot times are fast and applications launch quickly.
