biospath=rompath. Same as MAME. If you are referring to the internal UI, it will not list consoles/systems/games which do not have a romset.zip found. This means many consoles are not usable via the internal system selection and must be started via command-line to work properly.
NES/Famicom is a good example of a system with no "bios" roms that will not show with the system selection UI upon starting MESS. This will likely change in the future but the simple UI is not set up to account for these instances of shared/no roms. You'd need to start it manually: mess nes megaman2u for instance.. from command-line. From there, you can use the internal UI to load from picker or softwarelist other titles.
