My result turned out pretty similar, though the ship didn't break up on impact; it just tipped over. The last 100m of descent was very tricky, managed to kill my lateral momentum but didn't have enough time to re-align before the ground zoomed up on me. I had forgotten to equip the lander with RCS - it could have been useful here. The landing site is the other big crater, about 65 degrees from where you landed.
To mount a rescue, it looks as if some sort of shover robot may be in order.
